Define assessment criteria Competency-based assessment is a form of assessment that is derived from the specification of a set of outcomes. It states clearly the expected outcomes, so that assessors, students and interested third parties can all make reasonably objective judgements with respect to student achievement or non-achievement.

These criteria are nothing but the descriptions of a practice or condition that is of importance in the respective field. The cells in Table 5-1 represent the assessment criteria. Assessment criteria provide students with information about the qualities, characteristics, and aspects of an assessment task that will be used to measure their attainment of each of the learning outcomes. Criteria make it clear to students what factors will be taken into account when making judgements about their performance.
